Family Of Md. Girl, 6, Who Died Waiting For New Heart Forms Foundation In Her Memory « CBS Baltimore

CATONSVILLE, Md. (WJZ) — Today marks four weeks since a six-year-old girl from Catonsville lost her life waiting for a heart transplant.

Mary Bubala reports Teresa Bartlinski’s family announced a foundation in her name that will help other children around the world.

The death of six-year-old Teresa Bartlinski left a community stunned. She was the little girl with the huge smile, even when in pain.

Earlier this month, her heart failed as she waited for a transplant at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.

Teresa’s family held her funeral at St. Mark’s Church in Catonsville weeks ago, and now they’re hoping their daughter’s legacy will be shared across the world with a foundation called Believe in Miracles; it will fund a heart home in China.

“We are going to go to China and work alongside two hospitals in Beijing, along with their doctors and provide care and training for their doctors so no child will be told it’s too late,” said Ann Bartlinski, Teresa’s mom.

Teresa was born in China with congenital heart disease. Ed and Ann Bartlinski adopted her in 2010. They say if Teresa had been diagnosed right after birth, she would have had a better chance of survival.

“Our goal is to help them identify doctors and nurses there, especially with the most critically ill children with cardiac problems and hopefully get the proper care, diagnosis as soon as possible,” said Ed Bartlinski.

The Bartlinskis gave Teresa a chance at life and love in a family full of it. They have nine children, five biological and four adopted.

“They know Teresa is at peace and they are very content about that. They have given her back to God. They got her from God and now they feel the Lord is calling them to do for other children in China,” said Father Christopher Whatley, St. Mark’s Church.
