TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (AP) – An 8-year-old Terre Haute girl who spent five months in the hospital is finally home a month after she received a heart transplant.
Katelyn Newell returned home Thursday, and her mother, Robin Newell, says she’s already seeing improvements in her daughter’s stamina and appetite.
Katelyn’s transplant occurred April 24 at Riley Hospital. The girl was born without a valve in her heart and had undergone three heart surgeries and had a pacemaker installed prior to the transplant.
The Tribune-Star reports she will remain in isolation away from large crowds for three months. But if all goes well, Katelyn hopes to be able to attend a Justin Bieber concert later this year.
